Quick update before I rush off on the school run...............we have 4 little puffballs .....Yes all Pekins Daphne, and the same for Holly

 

Bloss has 3 yellow balls...2 Salmon & 1 Lemon Cuckoo and one darker one which I assume is a gold partridge.........we are waiting on a GP and a LC.

 

I know all this info as whilst I was lying in the run feeding Bloss some mealworms through the door (as you do ), she made the most revolting noise and the vilest smell ever started to choke me ...............there was no way on this earth I was leaving those babies and their mum in a nest box with such a ghastly item, so I whipped her and them out into the nice clean raised pootray & did a quick spot of housework.........bless her, Bloss went bananas but settled very quickly with a chuntering grumble & is now settled with the door closed again while I do the school run

I went to check on the little family this morning & with a little encouragement ( ) Blossom let me speak to each of her babies and stood up just long enough to show me that number 5, a GP had just hatched

Went out to check on them whilst Photobucket is taking an age to download a video & Bloss has obviously decided that the last egg is not viable...........and having had a quick look with a torch, she is right Probably never fertile in the first place, though I'll have a better look when the sun goes down

 

So I have 5 chicks, though what each one is is anybody's guess...........so please do...anybody, have a guess

They're all out in the run now...3 are sunbathing by the door & Blossom is puffed up near the feeders, so I assume she has the other two underneath

I candled it & there were no signs of growth at all, so I'm not upset by it's non hatch.....it's the ones who pip but don't unzip...that's heartbreaking

For incoming visitors or just for me to get round & check them all

 

I have to move Holly into the Pekin run so she is surrounded by Pekins when the babies hatch & they can get used to each other as they grow up......I have to rearrange the pen first though
