3.6m Omlet Chicken Run for sale, Brand New in Boxes, Milton Keynes (MK19)

...about getting some pekins! I haven't really been too fussed about bantams before but since i saw the pekins they had up at the wernlas i've fallen in love with them!

As i already have 5 girls, barnebars, orpingtons & a clb i'm guessing that it might not be a good idea to have them all in together due to difference in size & my barnebars are bullies! It took them ages to leave the buff orps alone and they are huge!

I was thinking colour wise, perhaps, lavender, lemon cuckoo, and i quite like partridge & cuckoo maran. Oh the list could go on & on!

So just as a coincidence I went to my local pet shop today and in the window there was someone who makes arks & coops etc advertising an ark/coop with run for sale for £150. Apparently its 9ft by 3ft, would that be a comfortable size for pekins, if so how many would be max in there??

This chicken addiction is catching on......

Firstly, Pekins rock

 

If the run on it's own is 9 x 3 then you could easily have 6 girls in there with a bit of FR. If that measurement includes the house then obviously less.

Well I am very new to chicken keeping & pick up my first ones on Sunday - 5 Pekins!! But my run is a very similar size to the one you mention so at least 5 I reckon!

5-6 would probably be comfortable. If I were you, I would go for it! Perhaps start with 4, then expand...

Just remember Pekins go broody at the drop of a hat. So that's a lot of nesting facilities needed if they all fall at once . Also, no eggs while the hen is broody either.

I've had them since decmeber 09, deardree went broody, when she started laying. and Effy, she has been a very violent broody. Blanche on the other hand, hasn't. they are beautiful girls, i reccomend them, not for eggs though..

I love pekins

They are my favourite breed ... I give mine a foot wash about every 2 weeks just to keep there feet clean and yes like everyone else has said they do go broody ... But still very lovely and entertaining to see them waddle around the garden

Oh and make sure you add mille fleur to your colour list ... Hehe
