Egluntyne
It could be. Can you catch her with a n angling net if you can get hold of one and have a good look at her and listen to her chest up close.
Alis girls
Thanks for reply - after the drama and me calling Omlet in a panic (are they used to mad women calling re sick hens?) she went in pen and starting eating greens! At this stage having spoken to bemused guy at Omlet and refraining from yelling "get me Barbara NOW" I called another chicken mum I know and she got her enclyclopaedia out and I said " if its got a long name and its fatal I dont want to know" She went thro a list of things all of which girls had been vaccintated against then said "is she paralysed" to which i said "I'll go and look" - she was very sarky and said if I had to look there was nowt wrong and she'd just swallowed a long worm or something. i went to work feeling awful but on my return shes fine. Thanks for reply Eglutyne - am I the only panicky mum. i hate sick animals - they cant tell you what is wrong.
Sheilaz
Very pleased to hear she's OK, I was hoping you'd report back after work, and was looking out for you. It's natural to be concerned, but you're gaining experience all the time, maybe you'll feel less worried next time? It's difficult when you know you have to leave in a hurry & feel anxious. Your chicken friend sounds very helpful, and there's always calm advice here too, as you received from Egluntine. Glad she's OK, now you can relax. staceychristie
Glad she's ok. They hide their illnesses, so the sooner you pick up on it the better. Well done. Stacey
Chucky Mama
Glad that she is better. I doubt if the people on the phone at Omlet will have enough hands on chicken experience (I could be wrong and it may depend who you get). Your vet would be the best port of call in an emergency
Alis girls
Thanks CM - I dont have much faith in vets at our practice as none seem to know re hens - I migh phone a few others - checked list on omlet but none in area. One of the nurses had chucks but she was a relief girl. I felt sorry for "Tim" I think it was on phone at Omlet - amd woman on line
Chucky Mama
Main thing is that all is now well. Like you say it is probably a good time to research a chicken friendly vet near you should you ever need one
annettec
I would be the same as you. They do go downhill so quickly. Am pleased all is well now though
