Silvermorgan Moon
First post so sorry if this goes wrong! Sadly lost one of my first Omlet hens last week. Tilley, our had to be PTS due to a prolapse I now have just the left, she seems fine at the moment but I don't want her to be lonely so need to get her some friends. I was going to get 2 POL hens, not worried about breed as long as they are friendly, good layers and disease free. Is it a good idea to get 2 and am I still likely to have problems introducing them given Edna is on her own? Was going to leave it until the weekend when I will be about to supervise any introductions
annettec
Oh so sad, I think you have been very unlucky. I'm afraid I am quite new to this too, but I am sure someone more experienced will be along soon ! We were told though that it would be best to introduce two to our girl when we lost one so that they have each other and I must admit it did work. All three are best of friends now Hope it goes well
Christian
Sorry to hear about your Yes, I agree best to add two new hens to your remaining *useful advise about introductions* Good luck.
Silvermorgan Moon
Thanks, was planning to get two, a friend has a farm with a number of ex Bats, she said I could have 2 of those but thought it would be best to go for 2 POL newbies, bit younger so might not challenge the
chickyhazel
You should introduce 2, we tried introducing 1 to 1 on its own, and one was very mean to the other.
kerryegg
May I suggest 3 so you don't have any more introductions if things go wrong. Forum advice excellent, I managed my 3 new ones to original Ginger very well using the information.
Silvermorgan Moon
Thanks for the advice everyone. OH has agreed to build an 'intro' house this week so we can get 2 (or 3!) new ones to keep Edna company. Hopefully all will go smoothly
