Pippahales
We've had three chickens and an eglu classic for a week. They were in their run for 4 days solid. The first few times we let them free range they took themselves off to bed. Last night though, the door to the run had drifted shut and I assume this is why they tried roosting on the window sill. I eventually herded them in. Tonight they tried the same and when I blocked the widow sill I later found one asleep in the eglu and the other two roosting on 6foot high vine covered beams at the bottom of the garden. I had to get a ladder and carry them in. How do I stop this? Are they unhappy in the eglu?
Egluntyne
I would make sure that they are in their run before twilight, rather than relying on them to find their own way back. Once the light drops below a certain level, they don't see well at all. I always make sure that mine are in their runs by 7pm at the latest. They can then put themselves to bed when they like. We have foxes who are out and about at twilight, so this is the best way for me.
