Welcome to the forum and congratulations on your new girls :D . Six foot fences should be ok as long as there aren't any launch pads for them to hop onto first  . Your garden sounds pretty big so they should have enough to keep them interested and prevent wandering :) .

If you give them some mixed corn or dried mealworms, they'll love you for ever and will follow you around whenever you take some out to them. I shout "chook chook chook" and my girls all come running  . Chuck some in their run and they should go in happily. Normally at dusk, they'll head off to bed by themselves but with these light evenings it'll be later than in the winter.

thanks for that thats put my mind at rest, i do have a raised bed area, my vegetable patch which are about a foot tall but are quite close to the fence thats the part i am worried about as my neighbours that side are very nice but dont want to keep going round to collect my Girls!! my sussex has become a right mischivious one already and can see her being the one to do it!

The dried mealworm trick works for me too. It's like chocolate for chickens. They stalk me if they think I'm going anywhere near the packets (two for a fiver from Tesco!) If I need to put them in their run, I just shake some inside and they go flying in.

Wilkos sometimes have 2 x 100g tubs for £4 so I ask my sister to keep an eye out as I don't have one near me. Last time I saw her, I owed her a fortune as she'd gone a bit mad on her "nieces" I remember her giving them some when I wasn't looking - nearly half a pot  I told her that would have lasted me a month (but wouldn't really!).

Try not to give them regularly at a fixed time or they'll start complaining LOUDLY if you forget or change your mind or are 5 mins late :shock:

Tescos are 2 x 80g for £5 so I get those if I ever run out of WIlkos ones.
