Debby Tutton
I have a Eglu Mk 2 and would like to hear of any suggestions to get my hubby to think a cube is necessary. I need to be subtle ... It has to be his idea
AbigailGrace
That it would be far easier to clean with it being off the ground. More room for the hens. Or your hens like to be able to sit in the nestbox at the same time and if you had a cube it would be far less hastle for them. All the best. honorandkit
Do what I do - order it while he's out and present it as a done deal!! Last time I did this, hubby was half way up a mountain...and I bought a Mini Cooper off the internet, without even seeing it in the flesh! Good luck! Being off the ground is a good one - I am handlicaped and it really would make life easier, don't know why I didn't think of it. Thanks for that one. Debby Tutton
that is the work of a true rvil genious! My wife somehow makes it appear to be my idea! If you can manage that you are on to a good thing! Yeah but how does she do it ? I usually end up pouring it all out in one go and it goes horibly wrong. Gotta take this one slowly. More than just the dosh it's that he won't be able to bring over so many of his tools in July
JS1
I'd suggest dropping hints that another form of housing is required for introducing new chickens/quarantine etc (so you can keep your eglu too) and, of an evening (with a glass of wine in hand) wondering aloud whether he thought it would be better to get the cube so that you didn't have to upgrade again when he wanted more chickens? Or you could say that you'd ordered one as he suggested - if he's anything like many husbands, he won't remember whether he suggested it or not, but won't want to admit that! Daffodill
If I want something I have to give DH the green light for some new bit electronic equipment or spare part for Landrover -this usually works ok- Marriage = give and take
txswanie
It is so much better for anyone with back pain (me, ouch) Cleaning is a breeze and of course you can get more girls yeahhh. You could also barter. We have a chickens for Hillman Imps thing going. 4 chickens, 4 Imps. (I know, don't get me started) His take up way more space than mine and are not as cute. My previously sceptical husband was standing staring at the chickens one day. I said what's up? Thinking oh no, he thinks it was a terrible idea. He said "I love the chickens they are so beautiful" You could have knocked me down with a chicken feather. He said "I am so glad we got the cube, its great" The poor soul also gets up early to let them out in the morning, bless him. Egluntyne
Just order it! It never occurred to me to even discuss it with Him indoors.
Tutti Frutti
I struck this morning seconds after the alarm went off at 6:30... so he was still pretty much comatose. ...give DH the green light for some new bit electronic equipment or spare part for Landrover And then I agreed to the new laptop But I forgot to mention that he's already raised most of the cash himself by selling spare parts from his old VW engines Now I won't mention the cube again until he thinks it's a good idea. Or tonight, whichever comes sooner. I also laid it on thick about being middle aged ( ) with a bad back and not being able to crouch down any more. Actually, he laughed when I corrected myself and said, actually I can crouch down, I just can't get back up again Please let me know how you get on! Debby Tutton
Not sure how it's going so far. I changed the home page on the internet and he didn't even flicker his eyelashes ! Just went straight back to the weather site. He doesn't know how to change the home page though so he may notice it next time ? Thourght that today I may emphasise my disability (one leg) and how hard it is to clean out the Eglu on the floor. Couperwife
what about telling him that the chickens need cleaning out, it would be a lot easier for you on a higher level (he could make a WIR with a mezannine level - or clean it out each week. then say - oh look at this *pointing at the cube* this would mean that I could clean it out a lot easier. or just do when I did - order the thing (OH wanted one - I didnt - he faffed on for about 6 months - reading up about the hen houses, hens, blah, blah, blah - so I just sat one night and ordered one - gave him the choice of colours - i wanted pink - he wanted green - we settled on purple ) cathy x
figarogir1
Go on to ebay and just randomly check how much eglus are going for. Comment on how little extra it would cost to get a cube and how much easier it would be to clean out and how much more room the girls would have etc. Obviously use the price of a cube with no run as a comparison you can add that on once he has realised what a wonderful idea the cube is! Once you have the cube you dont actually have to get round to selling the eglu do you Worked for me!

Alis girls
We had another post like this recently and most of the answers I suspect were changed by mods and unsuitable for family forum (well mine were anyway ) I am trying to get OH to allow me more chucks - to no avail. good luck
