Permanant run - what should I use to fox proof?

Recommended Posts

I apologise if this question has come up before but I am new to the forum.

We are in the middle of building a permanant run for our chickens (which we dont have yet!). On two sides we have a 6ft high fence, on the other two we are building a frame which will be covered in some sort of wire. Can anyone suggest what this should be please? I was going to use chicken wire but from what I have been reading this is not fox proof. I am not sure what will be the strongest thing. I was also going to copy the Eglu run and make a skirt around the outside and we are also covering the top. Does anyone have any other suggestions? I would like to try and make it as safe as possible first time! :?

Thank you.

I love the idea of the paving slabs around the outside. I am going to put them on top of the wire skirting. Not only will this be undiggable but also means we can walk around the edge without getting wet/muddy feet in the winter! :D

Thank you.

(You do realise it's compulsory to show us a picture of your run and girls  ?)

After three days of hard work they are all in!

We have a Bluebelle (un-named), a Daisybelle (Belle), a Goldline (Jenny) and a Black Star (Hatty). My Bluebelle doesnt have a name yet :( I am so indecisive that I think I might let my childminded children choose her name. I Might help them with suggestions and then pick a name form a hat!

Anyway, so happy! :D Cant believe we actually own chickens!

I will take some piccies of the run and hens tomorrow. Cant wait to start showing them off! :D
