My three new ex-batts

Recommended Posts

Don't worry, I had a bully too when my ex batts first arrived. She would STAND IN the food bowl making it inaccessible to the others and pecked at them quite viciously all the time for the first few weeks. I remember dashing out for emergency feeders on day 2 so that all the other girls could get something to eat.

8 months on, she is by far the most docile and friendly of my girls and (secretly!) probably my favourite.

I'm sure your girls will settle down very quickly.

We got three new ex-batts yesterday too, from Coventry. They are much bolder and in better condition than our original girls were when we got them, and two have already escaped their temporary run for an unplanned free-range. I'm hoping the partition holds today as we are both at work (bad planning  ) but DH is planning to get home at lunchtime to check on them.

They didn't want to go to bed last night and they didn't want to get up this morning. I think we had it easy with the first ones! Oh, and they come from a batch with red mite :( , which we've not had any trouble with so far, so that will put our procedures to the test.

Poor sweet Maud is not pleased with the interlopers and Matilda has already had a beak battle with one of the new girls through the mesh. It's our first attempt at introductions, so I've been re-reading all the good advice on the forum and we'll see how it goes!
