LuckyChickenLover-
I bought some of these from Pets at Home earlier today and I was wondering if the chooks could have one? It says they're for hamsters, rabbits, guinea pigs ect, but it doesn't mention birds at all. Apparently chickens go crazy for normal corn but I wasn't sure about this because it's dried. LuckyChickenLover-
No idea - but they're quite expensive!! Why not buy frozen corn cobs and defrost them ?H Hmm... that's acctually a really good idea. And now that summer's here, giving them frozen cobs should help them cool down in the hot weather. chickyhazel
Chickens much prefer mixed poultry corn, which is readily available.
Leicester_H
Maybe - but mine love (part of) corn cobs - takes them a while to eat it (which keeps them occupied - which is good for the boredom!) and they go back to the kernel-less remains over and over again (in the vain hope that there will be some left!!). A bag of frozen coblets (??) is a good standby. (*I* defrost them first - not sure if thats necessary of not?) Doesn't mixed corn conatin quite a lot of fat - so shouldn't be overfed ?? (OK in moderation - as most things) H
C&T
Mine love corn on the cob, Like others, have it in the bottom of the freezer, for when required. I give it to the frozen as lasts a lot longer(although OH prefers to defrost as he reckons it is cruel ). I also hang it up on string, so swings as they peck at it - it is very funny to watch, and again keeps them amused for longer! I have tried the dried version - and threw it away in the end. They were not interested at all - think it's too hard for them - OK for rodents to chew on, but not for chooks to peck at.
