Horrible day - not long since got back from vet having to have 'Tilda pts. We've been struggling with sterile egg peritonitis for the last 3 month - the frequent antibiotics gave her constant runs too - but she really seemed to have turned a corner and was so much better recently until yesterday evening. When I let the girls out today I saw I was too late - flystrike. Poor baby, it really was time for her, she'd suffered enough.

Gloria has decided to go broody today too, not something I've dealt with before but (hopefully) we'll cope. Feeling very discouraged and doubtful about keeping chickens right now.

Sorry for rambling on - think I'll go and curl up with the cats and have a good howl.

Thank you all for your kind words. I've done feeling sorry for myself now and will concentrate on getting Gloria thru' her broodiness and looking after both girls - going to tuck them up in bed soon. Sweet dreams Matilda xx

I know how you feel and I was almost dreading the weather turning warm with Millicent as she was a prime candidate for flystrike, with her mucky back end from her peritonitis

That's the hardest thing about taking on pets - you know you're signing up for ultimate sadness and loss.

 

I'm sure she had a wonderful life with you - and that's all any pet can ever ask for.
