Chicken troubles

Recommended Posts

So one of my pekins, Nugget, has caught some bacterial infection of a wild bird which has made the side of her head swell up, plus she has sinus trouble, has cost me a FORTUNE in vet's bills, and is currently in solitary confinement in a rabbit hutch. (She's actually perking up and looking a lot better now though, thankfully). Goujon has been broody for two weeks now and is showing no signs of snapping out of it, despite several dunkings in a bucket of cold water. So that just leaves my lovely Popcorn, who is a bit bewildered by her friends abandoning her, and appears to be attempting to eat away her sorrows. I swear she is bigger and fluffier every time I see her. Anyone else experiencing similar woes?

Just had three weeks of a broody Ramona - she'd have made a rubbish Mum because, despite making lots of squawky noises and flapping, she was easily distracted by anything edible! I had to be brave and just lift her out of the nesting box as there was a bit of a queue forming - her egg was lovely and warm though! I've never had a broody girl before so it was a bit of a shock!

Coco stopped being broody last week after three months of it,, now Pipa has started again after just three weeks of laying, tried dunking her but it hasn't worked, I think I'm going to have to borrow a puppy crate again. Chickens, would have them.
