johnandkymberley
As most of you know we lost one of our hens Cherry this past week. Things have been strange but i think the weekend might do us good. Now we would most defiantly not buy anymore hens but my friend is struggling to cope with her 6, she knows this and asked me to take them off her. I told her i dont want all 6 but would have 2 to see if she could cope with 4. The 2 i might me having are White stars , one of my favourite birds and although nothing will replace my gorgeous girl Cherry, i feel the flock and ourselves would benefit from this. I now need advice on how to introduce them to my 5, any advice would be great, thanks in advance btw we have chosen names (if we do get them) Willow and Lily - they fit in with our flower theme and i think they would suit them too!!! Olly
Introduce them slowly. If you look in the FAQs you will find a whole thread on introductions - basically you should keep them separate but in view, then gradually move on to feeding treats along the perimeter of the run so they get used to eating near each other, putting them in to sleep together but removing in the morning (hard at this time of year) and then freeranging together. the more slowly you can do it all, the better. Good luck!
Millie-Annie
After horrendous problems, mine are finally all happy together. I never let them sleep together though, until this week. Mind you only had them three weeks on Sunday, so not exactly a long time apart. I kept them in separate runs with separate nesting boxes. I had a 2:3 split. I chose the quietest one of the three and moved her in with my others, then slowly integrated the rest. Only when I felt they could cope in a smaller area all together, without pecking each other, did I let them all wake up together.
Egluntyne
Ditto to Olly's post. In addition, I would keep them separate for a week (in view but inaccessible) for reasons pf quarantine.
