New Hens!

Recommended Posts

Well, after weeks of searching I found a breeder I wasreally happy with and also has a good choice of chooks. :D

We went to visit this morning. Her set up is lovely and she clearly loves her birds. We came away with two older pullets (last years, only started laying this year), a Welsummer and a Black Cochin. They are absolutely gorgeous and very friendly and calm. We saw a gorgeous Buff Cochin, but she is keeping that one to show. She also had some Black and Buff Orps, Favorolles and Marans and also some Welsummer and Orp Bantams. All were beautiful and in great condition.

The newbies are currently in their house/run. Our existing girls are free ranging the garden and very interested in the new additions. There is a lot of 'growling' going on!

I'll post some pics when I can get some.

Thankyou.

The noise seems to be settling now, thank goodness! My poor neighbours.

Just need to think of names now. So far we have Margery, Matilda, Millicent, Mable and Speckled Jim (my husband's idea... ) And we are thinking of maybe Magda and ? beginning with M. I like to confuse myself...

I have managed to grab a few pictures:

Thanks! :D

The Cochin is wonderful, so laid back and calm. She spends her time strolling about the garden. We have decided to call her Magda, after the housekeeper on Sex and the City.

The Welsummer is sticking to Magda like glue, she's nowhere near as confident, but she is settling in well too. We have broken the 'M' theme and called her 'Wanda'. (I have to be careful with pet names as we recently struggled for baby names as all the girls names I liked were taken up by our animals... )

They are nicely settled in now, although Magda prefers sleeping in the nesting box and Wanda is currently sleeping on the house floor. Hopefully she'll decide to/be allowed to perch soon. During the day Magda and Wanda spend a lot of time alone together, but are starting to integrate with the flock.
