Mollie333
Time is nearly coming, 4th july chicks should hatch. I've ordered this feeder and drinker, is this ok? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/small-CHICK-quail-DRINKER-FEEDER-chicken-poultry-/380242730543?cmd=ViewItem&pt=UK_Pet_Supplies_Birds&hash=item58883b9e2f#ht_819wt_754 and a bag of chick crumb (5kg) Is this right? When the chicks hatch give them chick crumb, then when there 6 weeks change them to Growers Pellets, then when there eightteen weeks change them to Layers pellets (all cockerels will be gone by 18 weeks..) Also you don't need any extra heat do you if theres a broody hatching them? I read on a website that you need a brooder even if you are using a broody! if the chicks get ill, i will do my best to isolate them and keep them in the house, warm. Anyone near Heanor or Smalley/Horsley Woodhouse/Oakwood area know where to buy chick crumb and growers pellets locally? As much as i love going to my nearest poultry (Burton on trent) its expensive in petrol, but the feed is cheaper than from say Pets at home, which i try to avoid, its sooo over priced, plus doesn't do chick food or feeders and drinkers.. Thankyou for reading my babble!
Redwing
The feeder and drinker are fine You dont need extra heat if using a broody but you'll need access to get a lamp or electric hen or borrow one if the worst happens and the broody rejects the chicks (its not very common) The feed plans are fine I cant help with the local feed merchants sorry

Plum
There's a Kennelgate in Heanor as you go out towards Codnor on the right behind what used to be a furniture shop. I got chickgrit at one and I'm pretty sure they do the chickcrumb. Failing that there is Seal's Fodder Room at Swanwick or Taylors of Wingfield have various outlets. I got some from place by Derby Market but name escapes me
