Hello eveyone.

I have two Pekin bantams, they are in a small run with no grass at the moment, and will then be moved into a larger walk in run, but the grass will disappear.. do Pekins constantly need grass?

My Pekin Bantams don't always need grass the just like to sun bathe or have a dust bath!

My Pekin has a dustbath at the same time everyday, 09:00am.

On the breed info on the Omlet web site it says - Pekins can look rather pale and anaemic if not allowed on grass to forage. I have one Pekin who isnt kept on grass but she gets to free range every day and she is ok.

Mine aren't on grass in their run, they're on slabs and aubiose. I find that pekins don't appreciate wet/bad weather, and like keeping their feathered feet dry.They do free range daily, though. If your girl can't, you can always give her handfuls of grass, cabbage etc to keep her happy

No chicken needs grass but they do appreciate it in the summer at least

 

Its not the end of the world if they dont have grass, supplement the diet with some leafy greens

I wouldnt give them grass clippings but the others are fine

I wouldn't give them clippings either .. they are thought to be a cause of impacted crop.

 

My pekins love dandelion leaves, and I never seem to have a shortage of those.

My pekins are on rubber chippings and they seem to be fine, they can s"Ooops, word censored!" away and have a forage through them. They drain really well and warm up nicely on those chilly days And have stopped the WIR becoming a mud pit in winter. I do let them out of the WIR an hour before bed to roam around on the grass. Mine love carrot tops

Mine aren't on grass.

 

They are on concrete and wood chips.

 

When they are older they will all go into the garden.

 

Mine love the trailing jasmine flowers.

If the grass is short they will be OK .. esp if you scatter it around rather than leave it in a clump. Mind you, it doesn't stay in a clump long as the first thing they do is scratch through it looking for bugs!
