Ophelia
One of my ex-batts didn't come out of the eglu this morning. She was alert and looked fine so I thought she might be waiting to enter the nest box. I couple of hours later I checked on her and she was sat next to an egg in the nest box. when I checked again she was back on the roosting bars. I took her out and she seemed a little slower with her beak parted. I gave her some meal worms which she did not eat but she did drink the water that I gave to her. She then went off in to the shade. I cleaned the eglu out and put her back in. She took herself down the steps and pecked around a little before returning to her spot in the shade. She is stood there fluffed up and with a downward pointing tail. She also looks like she is trying to pass something as her back side keeps contracting. I had two eggs this morning and only two of my girls lay so it can't be a stuck egg - or can it? I thought maybe the heat had got to her. The whole run is well shaded with the eglu run being covered over, the WIR has a big bush that gives plenty of shade. I have put a tub of water next to her and she pecked at a tomato. Does anyone know what could be wrong or what else I should do?
Egluntyne
I would give her a **Basic Health Check** to see if anything obvious shows up, and worm her if you haven't done so recently.
Mollie333
It might be the heat. Like Egluntyne said, give her the basic health check. Hope shes ok now!
sandyhas3chucks
how is she doing?
Ophelia
Thanks for your advice. I gave her a good check over but couldn't find anything out of the ordinary. She continues to sit fluffed up in the shade so I placed a big container of water next to her which she was drinking from. A couple of hours later and she was running around back to normal. I think she must have been dehyrdrated. I am also going to worm all the girls just in case. Thanks for your advice.
