what can I grow in their place?

 

I have 2 smallish pots with wigwams on the patio,one huge one with a wigwam down by the hens,as well as a big pole & pea netting type thingy in the raised beds, which are all looking very bare now.

 

Is it too late to plant up later cropping Peas, or maybe Sweetpeas?

I am not adverse to getting seedlings from the nursery in, I just want to grow something......

How about more peas? A mange tout variety will grow quickly....

Needs to be a climber really - something that can go up the wigwams. I will look into the Mange Tout idea

If we are going to have the long summer that is forecast, then what about borlotti beans. Very colourful and nice pick flowers?

Climbing red French Beans - so pretty leaves and deep purple flowers and far less stringy than runners.

I was going to suggest climbing french beans too, we far prefer them to runners, you can eat them from small until they are quite large and they don't go stringy for ages. We grow the round varieties not the flat ones.

Right - 2 different dwarf french beans,Borlotti Beans & mange Tout ,all in.

I actually bought the seeds earlier this spring,so had them on standby for when my peas had finished.
