Should we start a Cube Appreciation Society do you think?!

Definitely need a cube appreciation society - but I guess by the very fact that we are here says a lot!

Can I ask if your Cube is inside a WIR or is it one with the run attached :?:

We are going to get a Cube but want to put it inside our WIR, which we haven't got yet, but can't seem to find out if it will be possible to really clean it properly inside a run :?:

Mine are in an electric fence area, so can't really judge... I guess it depends on the access and size of the run. Could you have it on the outside of the run?

The run we have ordered is 24ft by 6ft and we were going to have the Cube towards one end so that we can get behind it to clean it as it seems to look like you have to pull the back off :?: We will have 6ft in height and the Cube will be up against one side of the run with a hatch to get to the egg port without going inside the run. I have tried to explain to my OH that there are good reasons to have it inside the run, but also good reasons to have it outside too, however he seems quite adamant that inside the run is better

HI.

My cube is outide my run and secured to the wire mesh. I choose to have it outdie so i can hose it down and give it a good clean without ruining the hemcore inside eachtime, then i change the hemcore about every6-8weeks. also having it outside means you have more space inside for perhces/tables etc.

If we had ours outside of the WIR it would mean having a run 3ft shorter as we would need more space for the Cube on the end of the run as we didn't want it on the side. Seems whichever way we go it isn't going to be perfect :?

Hi, sorry for jumping in on this thread. I've currently got a wooden house with Aubiose inside, which makes clearing out the poo quite easy. But, OH said today that if I really really wanted one, I could have a cube  But, and I'm sorry if this is a really stupid question, from what I can see from the pictures of the Cube, the chickens just sit/sleep directly on the plastic bars? And I take it their poop drops through the bars into the poop trays. So, the plastic bars get covered in poop? Isn't that really hard to clean off the bars? I haven't got a pressure washer :(

No its so easy, alot of poo drops through and what doesn't is easily cleaned off. I don't have a pressure washer. The bars come out and I use a good old bucket and scrubbing brush. Unless my girls are unique it comes off in a milli second.

Or.........very eggstravigant I know, but as I work full time and in the winter dont see daylight until weekends, I brought a spare pair so dont have to scrub poo off in dark in winter just exchange.:roll:

I'd thought of buying spare grubs and glugs to give me time to clean them out but not spare bars, very good idea :D
