Perches and hiding places

Recommended Posts

I'm about 3 weeks into my introduction of my 2 bantam silkies with my 2 established standard girls. The silkies are in the same 5'x9' WIR but separated by a wire fence and have free ranged (supervised) along with the standards for a couple of days. There has been a little chasing and pecking, but I stop that as soon as I see it and for the most part the two groups wander about separately without much fuss.

In a week or two (after more free ranging time together) I would like to remove the fence in the WIR and mix them, but have been warned to make sure the little girls have separate feeders as well as plenty of hiding places and perches to escape if they are picked on. I would love some suggestions of what to use to make hiding places that the silkies can get to but the bigger girls cannot. Also, some perches would be nice (although the silkies can't get very high.) I would like to utilize some of the vertical space in the run so the big girls have more places hang out to make the run seem bigger.

What do you guys use to make perches and hiding spaces?

What about some branches from twiggy shrubs with lots of leaves? Or just a willow panel so they can disappear around the other side without being spotted.

I've got an Ikea step stool in my run which they can go behind or if small they could go inside to hide and branches from old trees to sit on. :D
