tinaduffyjames
Hi, Edna my Pepperpot has had a limp now since Friday and it is steadily getting worse. She is currently on a course of Baytril as she had suspected mycoplasm but is so much better in herself. So it is a worry that she now has a limp. I have checked her foot and it is no hotter than the other one and there are no obvious signs of any damage. I can manipulate the leg and foot and she does not object so any ideas? The antibiotics finish Tues.
Forge Cottage
Sometimes they can get a limp if an egg is pressing on a nerve. When they lay it resolves immediately. Is she late laying? I am sure someone with more ideas will be along soon, although most go to bed early here!
Ms Marple
Hi. Again someone more knowlegable will answer soon, but when I have had limping chickens it has been resolved by increasing their calcium uptake by adding limestone flour to their food. I often make up porridge in the afternoon and add the flour to it. They go mad for it and it seems to do the trick.
Egluntyne
Could just be a sprain. Follow Ms Marple's advice, and perhaps put her in a cat carrier or similar to enforce rest for a day or so. Leave it in the run so that her friends can see her. Might be worth giving the vet a ring to discuss, because as she has an infection, this could be affecting one of her joints.
