Guest
By cine film do you mean a home video? Or a cinema film that has been recorded on a shakey cam? If you are talking about home video, what kind of format is it currently in? Please don't say cine film format as I have no idea what that is! WitchHazel
Oh god I feel old. I don't mean video, I mean the old-fashioned 8mm (or 16mm, not sure which as it's not mine, it's my parents and I haven't seen it for years) film which is on reels and you load it onto a projector to view it. If you unreel it from the reel you can see each individual frame. My parents had a cine-camera, and they recorded a lot of footage about 40 years ago. Guest
Ah I know what you mean now, sorry I just haven't seen or heard about them for a long time and I didn't think people still had them. I have done a fair bit of video editing and video transferring in the past, but the furthest I have gone back to is VHS, so sorry I'm not aware a way to transfer it to DVD. I would guess you would need to somehow play it on some kind of equipment that could output to a digital format, but unfortunately I don't have a clue what you would need. I guess a crude way would be to project it onto a screen and record the screen with a home video camera and transfer that to DVD but I can't imagine the quality being great. I'm sure someone else on here has probably come across this before, so maybe they would be able to help? Or perhaps you could try contacting a specialist that advertises in transferring cine film to DVD for some advice?
little cluckers
Ah I know what you mean now, sorry I just haven't seen or heard about them for a long time and I didn't think people still had them. Well I feel really old now !! All footage of me as a baby is on cine film (I'm only 37) Our local camera shop advertises cine to DVD but I don't know how much they charge. I think my hubby was looking at this at doing this himself a while back, when he gets home from work I'll ask him how far he got with researching how to do it
WitchHazel
Thanks for your replies. I've read up on doing it myself, but it isn't as simple as doing, say, a VHS to DVD transfer (which I have done myself). There are two methods, one is projecting the film and then recording it while it is being projected, the other is to use a (rather expensive) Telecine machine. Even using the Telecine it's possible to get poor results (lots of flickering etc); so in the end I decided it would be better overall to get someone else to do it. I've found lots of places on line, but I am also aware (from when I was finding out how to do it myself) that the results are really variable, and price charged isn't necessarily a good indicator of likely quality. That's when I thought I'd ask whether anyone had an experience.
