WarrensWorld
Anybody had a bursitis, I've just acquired one. I have no ldea how I came by it, but by heck it's painful. The thing is I can only sleep on my left side, if I turn over the pain wakes me up. So I'm doing lots stretching exercises and taking pain killers, but they don't seem to be working at the moment.....
LuckyChickenLover-
I haven't had any experience, I just came to offer my sympathy. Sounds painful
kerryegg
Sorry to read your news. No experience of humans but cold liver oil helped our dog. Cleared up quite quickly, worth a try perhaps. Hope you soon feel more comfortable.
chickweed
I have had this and I really sympathise. It is so painful and gets worse when lying down making it almost impossible to sleep. I too had only had one position that enabled me to sleep. I was prescribed anti inflammatories but they didn't have any effect. Sitting in the car was the only thing that gave me relief and the effects would last for a few hours. Strange I know I think that the best thng you can do is rest. I do hope it gets better soon. quickcluck
You poor thing! If it continues go back to the GP, and ask for a referal to an orthopaedic man. They can be injected either while awake or a very small anaesthetic. The injection generally helps with pain relief and can also reduce them enough that they go away completely
Happy chickens!
OH had one on his elbow, very painful. Didn't help when I teased him that it was called housemaid's elbow (ok the expression is housemaid's knee, but it was his elbow!). Worse still was the a and e dr who decided to drain it as it was so painful, but OH also gets gout and that triggered an attack so was in more pain than if he'd broken it. Rest and anti-inflamatories helped. Hope gets better soon.
The Dogmother
My ex has it in one shoulder - the result of not resting a previous bad injury. It's an inflammation of the sac of fluid that surrounds the joint - he's had a steroid injection into the joint and that seems to have eased it, but he just won't rest to sort the problem permanently. jess1merlin
You have my sympathy, I had it in by elbow and it was really painful. The only thing that seemed to help was rest and painkillers.
Tiggy
all of the above, it can be painful, see your GP if not settling many GPs can do joint injections so you may not need to go to orthopods, happy chickens - if you have one on your elbow its called 'golfers elbow'
deejmum
I have a bursitis on my hip , well underneath my hip (ishcleal i think) I had a lot of osteopathy but actually found that ultrasound was really effective. Now it comes and goes but is never as bad as it was back then, it never bothers me at night now but occasionally when I am on my feet more than usual, If it gets bad I go to the osteo for stretching and ultrasound and it helps a lot! Hope yours gets better soon x
Treekeeper
Can you get them on any joint?''cause it sounds like I've got one on my wrist, had all the blood test for arthritis etc and all came back negative how do you find out if it is Bursitis?? WarrensWorld
The problem is I also have type 2 diabetes so anti-Inflammatory injections can cause problems. Though I've had 3 special ones in my knee, and a steroid injection in my shoulder (jiggered my rotator cuff). What with the arthritis, gout and now a bursitis in my hip, I've come to the conclusion that I need a replacement body.....
Guest
My husband had bursitis in his shoulder, caused by rocking our 3rd daughter up and down to get her to sleep! He needed a steroid injection - and I had to take over the rocking. Two of my children have also had bursitis in their shoulders which is apparently very unusual. They had ibuprofen gel and rested the joint for a while. I don't know how to test for bursitis in the wrist. In the shoulder, if you extend your arm to the side and then try to lift your whole arm up to the ceiling, you can't because the pain in the shoulder is too great. Swimmers often get it in their shoulders. Good luck everyone. It seems rest is the best thing
debbier
I've currently got one in my heel. I'm trying ice packs and ibuprofen. It's not getting any worse, but no better either. How long can they take to subside? Mine sounds a lot less bother than some of the others, though.
