Parsons Nose
Does anyone know where I can buy chickens!? I live in South Elmsall, Pontefract, West Yorkshire. I had 3 until quite recently when sadly, all died within a few months of each other. My partner bought them from an old couple and while they seemed to be healthy (the hens, not the couple!) they all seemed to die the same way, just staying in their house, then dying. We had them for about 18 months The coup has now been empty for a few months, it has been cleaned out but not disinfected, so I think it'll be OK to house new hens. Cant wait to get some more, loved having them in the garden and obviously, the eggs were so much tastier than even free range shop bought. Thanks. hippy chick
Hi I'm from Hemsworth and I buy my hens from http://www.rawgreencottages.co.uk/contact.html They have a lovely set up and the hens are very healthy. I just got a new POL from them she is in superb condition and fully vaccinated.
Parsons Nose
Thank you very much Hippy Chick! Please excuse my ignorance but what does the term POL mean? I'll have a trip over to Raw Green Cottages very soon, thanks again.
Egluntyne
POL means Point of Lay. I too have had several hens from Raw Green Cottages and can recommend them. Another place you could try is **Storrs Poutry**.
Guest
Their silver partridge pekin picture is my breeders hen. I was there when he took it
hippy chick
I fancy getting a couple more, I want some blue eggs. Which breed do I get Jilly x
Guest
I think the cream legbars lay blue eggs.
Egluntyne
From Storrs? Cream Legbar. Ring first as they might not always have any in. AM not sure that Raw Green stock blue egg layers at the mo. I got my Fenton Blues there, but I don't think Jody is keeping them any more. Again, ring for advice.

hippy chick
Just had a look at the Storrs Farm link. I think I need to go along without my OH I want one of everything Jilly
Egluntyne
The track up to the farm is rather challenging. It is a 1 mile single track unmade road. There are a few passing places though.
Gelbel
That drive at Stoors But worth it at the end. I understand that Jody at Rawgreen Cottages has really long waiting lists at the moment.
4Clucks-minusOne
There is also Hinchliffes Farm in Netherton Huddersfield. I got my 2 new girls from them but my first 3 came from Storrs. Hinchliffes have had a fire that destroyed their shop and restaurant but they are still supplying hens. http://www.hinchliffes.com/chickens.php
