Ange1
This is a sad post but I need swift advice, I've read different things about the rules of disposing of a dead chicken. Does anyone know what is correct? I've read about a shallow pit and burning it, I've read you musted bury it near a water course(like ours), I've read you must not 'bin' it as it's not a pet and you must call the chap from the nackers yard to remove it. What do people do? At the moment it's in a cardboard box inside a bin liner, the black bins wont be collected for another two weeks so don't think binning it's the way to go. Any help would be nice thanks peeps!
vickichicky
How sad for you. I have burnt the mine in the past. I put her in a cardboard box with lots of paper and dry wood so it burn't nice and hot as I didn't want to find any grisly charred remains left. I also found I couldn't stand there and watch in case I smelt anything other than the wood burning.... It's not pleasant whatever you choose, but it's the best option for me. Good luck. Ange1
Thanks Viki, Have read on our local newsletter that bonfires aren't allowed here and we don't have a metal bin incinerator(sp). Just rang Dad though, who has a bonfire burning and he will do it for us! So relieved, thanks for your advice so quickly too.
Lewis
I'm sorry Sounds like you're sorted, but you can double bag them and put them in the bin ... not best with 2 weekly collections though. You can also take them to the vet to be cremated for something about £
Egluntyne
Defra advise against the burning of dead animals other than in specialist incinerators. I black bag mine and put them in the bin. Burying is an acceptable option, but it is best to cover the spot with boulders afterwards.
Purplemaniacs
Both of ours have been cremated, Henny Penny cost us a fortune I think they saw us coming . Ebony was going to put in the bin but she died on the day the bin had been collected so we decided to get her cremated, but at a different vets, they were really nice and no charge. Sorry to hear that you have lost a chook. Chrissie
