Well after 13 months of chicken keeping, and with a reluctant OH I have finally managed to get him to convert our existing pergola to a WIR, and I'm sooooo excited! We took time off work last week and I finally finished making the chicken activity centre to go in it at the weekend, having been let loose with OH's precious power tools. We had a grand opening on Sunday evening when my mum cut the ribbon (garden twine). I'm so proud!

I've been procrastinating for months about getting a WIR as it is going to be right along side our conservatory, If I could disguise it to look like a pergola I would be much happier, so thanks for posting your pictures.

Thank you so much for the lovely comments. I had the eglu and run underneath the pergola before, and as our garden is really tiny, I was worried that if I fenced the pergola in, it would dominate the garden even more, as I am as mad about plants and gardening as I am about chooks. But now it is finished I am really pleased with it and how it looks!

 

The girls seem to really like it to, as even when I let them out to their free range area, they keep going back inside! The activity area seems to be a big success too! It was my first foray going solo with power tools, and there are some pretty dodgy joints and funny angles, but the girls like it which is what matters!

Now you've got the hang of the powertools, make a little segragated area and just pop them in he'll never notice!!!!
