CallyChook
Hi folks, I'm after some new female polands for my flock, but haven't found anyon with them available in my county. I have a couple of breeders on the opposite side of the country who have some girlies for sale, but with me not driving and my hubby not thinking that driving hundreds of miles for chickens is something he'd be happy to do, it looks like the only way I could actually buy and polish girls is to get them courier'd cross country. Having done a google search, I've managed to get myself very pickled and not managed to find anyone who seems to courier chickens. Does anyone know of a reputable company who will transport birds?? I know it will be expensive, but no more than the cost of a train ticket and a whole day 8months pregnant spent on public transport. any help would be very much appreciated! CallyChook
oooh, ta, i will make a note of the address so far, the only person with girls for sale is in Boston, Lincolnshire, and I'm a 3.5hr drive away in Frodsham, Cheshire. I dont drive, and to go on the train is just under £80 and 5 hours each way!! I'd have to go on the train with my three yr old too, and am 34 weeks pregnant, and carrying chickens.... it aint gonna happen!!!
SJChick
Hi Once a racing pigeon was lost here and the owner sent a company called Amtrak to pick it up and take it home. They came with a little box with holes in it so it was ok on the journey. I'm not sure if they still do it, or take chickens, but you could have a look. Mollie333
Hi Cally, Heres a website where there is adverts near and around Cheshire. I'm sure someone will have Polands. http://www.poultry.allotment.org.uk/poultry-suppliers/hen-for-sale-Cheshire.php
CallyChook
thanks Mollie but I already gave the poultry allotment site a whirl There's just earl at Orchard Poultry that i havent contacted yet, just because i tried phoning before and got no reply and he has no internet contact details! Bev's rare breeds listed on there are great, she reared my croad cockerel and I got three silkie chicks from Victoria's poultry a while back, but at the mo looks like no poland pullets for sale! I had a lady in Berks tell me I'd make a fortune if I started breeding polands here in the NW because it's reknown for lacking in that particular breed, if only I had the space I'd love to.... especially the silver laced..... Chicken dreams

I've not investigated too far into either of these but they both look promising if pricey!
dixie chick
The place I got my hens in Cheshire had black Polands - 'Garden Hens' near Great Budworth - only about 20 mins from Frodsham. You could try giving her a ring ....

Tweety
I don't know of a courier service for hens, but there is a rare breed poultry sale at Chelford market on the 18th September. I have seen Polands there in the past, so it may be worth a visit if you can't get any before then. It might also be worth looking in the breeder's directory in Practical Poultry magazine to see if there are any nearer to you. Good Luck! Gonna give Earl at orchard poultry another ring too later. Mollie, I tried happy chicks and noticed they charged £45 per bird.... ouch! Everyone else I tried has said £15-20. if i buy 4 plus courier my hubby will never forgive me! will check Storrs now Right, off out for me to go paint the inside of a shed in brilliant white exterior gloss i might have to follow hippychick's example and paint clouds on the ceiling....
