janeears
After extensive research, we have finally ordered our long-awaited WIR from Bay Animal Housing . We are SOOOOOO excited and are just waiting to hear about our delivery date. Thanks to everyone who has helped and advised us over the last few weeks. My daughters and I have raised money by doing a car boot sale and selling unwanted goodies on ebay. Yippeeeeee!

janeears
Thanks ladies!! I daren't show my complete joy to my 'real life' friends because they'd think I was completely bonkers, but I know you crazy lot understand!! I promise to take loads of photos at all stages, charting our progress. CAN'T WAIT!!
hopetofinish
Which size run did you decide on in the end?
Dizzy-Deb
Yes lots of pictures please. I love looking at other people's designs/set-ups.
janeears
Once we finally decided on it's location, we have opted for 12" x 5" x 6". It's not huge, but more than adequate for our 3 lovely ladies. The eglu will be outside for ease of cleaning, almost certainly on a table. I'm still debating whether to slab the whole area or just the perimeter. What do people think?
hopetofinish
I've slabbed mine, but that always gives the option of lifting them later should you want to.
janeears
I always assumed that we'd just slab the perimeter but I'm amazed how deep their 'digging' is!! . I'd hate to get it all set up only to discover that within a couple of weeks, they'd dug major holes and trenches which would make the slabs rather unstable. I'm coming around to the idea that complete slabbing might be preferable.
Dizzy-Deb
We have slabbed our WIR area too, its all finished now. We have been fortunate because we have the slabs already, so no expense on those just the sand that needed to bed them on. It will be a bit of extra work but you will have peace of mind if you can do it. xx
janeears
I agree, DD. I think the extra work will be worth it in the long run. We won't need a huge number of extra slabs - I'm sure places like B&Q and Wickes do a budget range of slabs that will do just fine.
Plum
I hope you meant ' not " or you'll have really small chickens Lot of hard work for you then doing that slabbing. It's a good cause.
janeears
My husband has just read this thread on his laptop and is sighing rather heavily Bless him, he's wonderful but DIY is not his forte!! I think that it will be ME doing most of the slabbing!!
Olly
Congratulations, well done on your fundraising endeavours! Mine is just perimeter slabbed and it's been fine - they have dug down quite a bit, but not enough to de-stabilise any of the slabs. I got the cheapest ones possible from a DIY store, and laid them on sand and they've been fine. I wasn't sure I was up to the work of slabbing the whole run, and I like them to have a bit of earth to scratch in.
MummyHen
Well done on ordering the WIR . My WIR is completely slabbed - cheapo ones from B&Q; did you know you can order online and pickup at local store, they get them ready for you on a trolley and help load into car - so much easier. My hubby is hopeless at DIY well he has other talents we put down our slabs I think 4 times in all before we were happy - so don't worry. Photos - are a vital part of the process at each stage
