What happened to my jam?

Recommended Posts

I'm no jam expert but it sounds like it didn't reach setting point. Someone else might be able to give you better advice but you can try emptying the jars and reboiling the jam until you reach a set and/or adding some liquid pectin to help the jam set.

The bad news is.... you will have to re-sterilise all your jars before refilling them with the jam :(

Ditto to the above, empty the whole lot into a jam pan and reboil.

You won't get as many jars again, no matter how much you s"Ooops, word censored!"e.

I never have a problem with jam, but blackberry and apple is always a nightmare for me. I reboiled the last lot twice  and it still didn't set

I now use powder pectin or Certo with that jam and it works fine.

Is it possible that anyone in the family has had a few spoonfuls out of the jar licking the spoon inbetween? :shameonu: It sounds horrible but saliva contains enzymes which will break down the jam and make it runny. :vom:

I have had problems with members of my family doing this with various things and they get the full force of my wrath if they are caught.
