stoice
I know a few places to get chooks in Essex - (Upsons, Hens4homes, Essex Chickens, Landbase Poultry) but does anyone have any experience or knowledge of any sellers of pure breeds? I've seen some pure breeds at Essex chickens but thought £50 for a Buff Orpington was a little steep. I get my Garvo from Rosehill Hatchery and they breed pure breeds but have never purchased stock from them before - are they ok? Every chook I got shown a month or two ago was housed with a cockerel (Obviously as they're breeders) but it meant they were all well trodden with bald patches and it put me off a bit. Thanks guys
Blue-DiamondChick07
I just bought a black bearded Silkie hen from Rosehill on saturday (oops I did it again) for £10 and shes lovely, if not a bit flighty. I also got my laced Pekin from there too. I quite like them. I do find that Essex Chickens can be a bit pricey at times..

quickcluck
Barling Poultry so some pures, also britannic rare breeds, and Gavin Keys in Hullbridge does orps if you are looking for them. There's also a lady in Warley that has the most gorgeous orps, my friend got 3 from there last year and they are perfect!
Goldstar
Growing Together sell pekins and apenzela's (sorry about the spelling) they are between Colchester and Tiptree. I know they do other breeds too, but not sure which ones.
stoice
This is great guys, thanks. I have a black rock and an Amber star at the moment so I'm not sure mixing bantams with my two monsters would be wise Redwing, loving the idea of a Wyandotte though. I'm going to have a nose around Britannic Rare Breeds website, quickcluck, that looks really interesting. And Gavin Keys seems to be on my back way home from work so may also be worth a visit. It's so tricky trying to decide what to get. I've been toying with maybe rescuing a few more ex-bats as i think they're great, but then I'm thinking of Heritage Skylines for their blue eggs or another laid back bluebelle, or maybe a pure breed that may last longer than the few years some of my hybrids have been with me. Decisions decisions. As for Growing Together, Goldstar, I did my chicken keeping course there before getting my first hens (And before discovering this forum!), I'd forgotten about them so will pop in there too. How do i decide what to get? LOL
