Lesley
Just bring it with you in December Ginette......... 1 Turkey = 1 Orange Eglu! That run area should be finished soon. We have a 10 ton pile of gravel to be moved (another pile ) - my son is working here this week - and it's not raining yet as they forecast............... All the hens are in the right pens now - we need to do some wing clipping as they all hop over the 5'6" fences and go wherever they like. The netting runs will now go East to West instead of North to South (compared to the house) and then they will be let out into their new long runs. buffie
Fantastic Lesley, what a line up Who'd of thought it, we've all gone a little bit further than a couple of chooks BBxx
Lesley
That will be the title of my book Buff - "It started with two....." Sarah - they are clean because we have blasted them all with the power washer I ache from head to toe now. Just lately, the only way the hens have had a clean Eglu is because a new one has arrived and we move them into it

Lesley
I have changed my profile Marti - it looks odd with the two geen Eglus at the end They are the two Mark1 Eglus - in the original green, which i like better than the new green. It looks fine in real life The bantams are in those as they don't make as much mess and the Mark 1 is harder to clean.
Guest
Just bring it with you in December Ginette......... 1 Turkey = 1 Orange Eglu! That's quite an expensive turkey Lesley! I'm quite happy to swap, but I'm not sure I'd like a green one. Also, what would my girls do while I was busy swapping? I hope it's not too foggy in December! The Dogmother
That reminds me, I'd better put an order in for our chicken for Christmas day. Hang onto your eglu Ginette; orange is best!
Guest
I really like the orange actually. I never would have chosen it, but it looks lovely. OH managed to find an orange treats bowl to go with it too.
Helly Welly
Lesley your set-up looks fantastic!! Cinnamon
Lesley, can I ask about those pens? Did you make them or buy them in - I suspect you bought them & would be very interested to know where from. Also, the 2 far green Eglus are a gorgeous emerald colour, but the third along is more of a garedn green, like mine - any idea why?

I just can't do it Helly - it all has to be colour coded! Thank you so much for selling me your Eglus - the last two on the list - and I'm glad you like the Cube. Lovely to meet you and your lovely family yesterday. Meeting your OH in Fosse Park car park with a chicken under his arm was a highlight of our day I'm only sorry I forgot the camera! The Dogmother
Aww, bless, as you do.. chicken under your arm They're lovely, It's a shame that we were soaked when we met at the royal show..... not conducive to chatting Sarah, the emerald green was the 'old green' used for the mark 1 eglus. Also, the 2 far green Eglus are a gorgeous emerald colour, but the third along is more of a garedn green, like mine - any idea why? Yes, the green was only in production for a short time - I much prefer it. The pens are from FlytesoFancy. They are DEFRA approved so if we should have any probems with Avian Flu and have to have all poultry under cover then we will just lock them in that part. We've had two door panels for ours so that it opens into the run. We didn't order them in the beginning but I phoned and paid for them as an afterthought, they are a really excellent Company with good customer service. The panels we took out will make the rabbit run.
Cinnamon
They look fab & I thought they were those ones - I have ben looking at those too. Did you get the extra fox skirt with them?
Lesley
No, we didn't because all the pens are inside a large rectangular plot which has 5'6" high netting around it and a single strand electric wire hitched up to a battery. We chose the roofs instead We know we always have foxes around and they frequently visit our neighbour and run off with his chickens. We haven't had any problems with foxes so far. Lesley
Look what we've got!!!!! (I've had to post the out of focus shot as the label has our whole address on it!) We are today. We didn't think we'd get any honey as the season was so poor with all the flowers. It picked up towards the end of the season and we suddenly had to put in an order for a honey extractor and other paraphernalia and there was a delay waiting for the extractor to be in stock. The extractor - described as a Table Top - is enormous! We stood it on the floor in the Brewery and we all had a go at extracting - Lauren and Jake helped on Tuesday after school. Carl and I brought it into the warmth of the kitchen and strained it yesterday evening and we now have 20 jars full. Not a vast amount, but we're so proud of our bees! We were abandonned by the Warwick and Leamington Beekeepers as we live some distance from most of the members who they use to mentor new members, so we just read the book and did our best. We will probably learn from any mistakes we may have made! We're just about to join the Stratford Branch of beekeepers - they contacted us about a beekeeping course starting in January. We have left honey in the hive for the bees to overwinter - we didn't want to take it all and then have to feed them through the winter. We may have to supplement the honey we left with some sugar syrup. The bees are still active and getting ready for winter now. More photos...... The Dogmother
That looks lovely Lesley - I must say that it tasted lovely when I had some at the weekend. How much are you charging?
Guest
Fantastic Lesley!! I'm so jealous - I'd love bees, but I think the neighbours patience with us flouting the deeds may stop short of putting up with a beehive in our garden!
Guest
Lesley - that is wonderful! Yet another success for you both. I'm really pleased for you. Are they your onions all strung up too? It really is the Good Life isn't it?
