quickcluck
I'm thinking of letting my young pekins have a free range, now the garden is on it's last legs, the big girls are fine s"Ooops, word censored!"ping about, but I'm in two minds with the pekins as they are so light, and they can fly!!! Do you other pekin mummies clip their wings for safety in the garden? Also when do they lay? Mine are still young but i've noticed that they have gone really red in the face Surely it's still too early?? thanks K
sparkysmum
Have never clipped any of my ladies wings. My pekins don't even attempt to fly although they do jump onto branches, tables etc. For the most part they just waddle comically around the garden. Egluntyne
I have clipped my Pekin's wings as they have vertical take off. It made a difference.
karlotta
I've never had to clip a wing of any of my pekins, but I have done selected other bantams... specifically those that have literally flown onto the garage (rather than flappy jumping!) of which the latest flier hasn't tried again even though most of her wing feathers have grown back. I don't clip as a matter of course.
The Dogmother
Neither of my pekins really flies, but the RIR and Ancona banties do, so are clipped.
Redwing
I dont clip any wings but then I show my birds so cant clip them! My Pekins look for gaps to squeeze through rather than go up and over - under all the fluff they are diddy so do bear that in mind and plug any gaps as necessary! Mollie333
Never had to clip my Pekins wings, or any of my bantams. Just my Warren hen and two turkeys!
Guest
Never clipped any wings. They do stay in their WIR for most of the time.
