Our WIR, finished this weekend!

Recommended Posts

We ordered this 12' x 9' x 6' run from Bay Animal Housing, painted it green, added a sloped roof, guttering and a water butt to the rear. We're delighted with how it turned out (it's a very good quality run) and are so glad that we didn't try to build one from scratch! :D

We're planning to raise the eglu off the ground and add some perches/extra stimulus, but we were just so desperate to get the roof on before it decided to rain again that the girls are having to wait until the weekend for that!

Next job is sorting out that disaster of a fence and the mess around it. Fun times.

Congrtaulations!:clap: Your WIR looks fab - lucky chooks! We got our run from Bay, too, and are really pleased with the quality. We've added yet MORE branches and a mezzamine (sp???) level today - talk about spoilt chickens! I love watching them hop from perch to perch, though: you can tell they thoroughly enjoy their 'adventure playground'!! :D:D

Aww, thanks all!

Yes, they're 3 very lucky ladies... When I think about the lives of battery hens and their tiny, cramped living conditions, they seem even more indulged

Corporal Cluck's been trying to eat the aubiose (even by chicken standards, she's pretty dim), so the sooner I get some more levels and perches in to keep her occupied, the better! :D

I considered leaving the wood au naturale, or painting it the same brown that the main garden fence has been painted, but the green works really, really well to blend the run into the garden and soften the lines, which is good as it's a pretty hefty structure. I also paint-rollered some of the stain onto the weldmesh, which seemed to make it 'disappear'. My top tip, that! 8)

alet_chicken, I'm sure that you'll be very pleased with your run - they're really very good quality. Please post some photos when it's up!

Argh, why didn't I see this earlier! ARGH!!!!! Oh well. I've bid on one of these on ebay, not realising it, for quite a bit more. Grumble. Let's hope I don't end up paying as much as I've bid for it, or I shall be really very cross.

You can retract a bid on ebay! Just say that you entered the wrong amount:

Hope this helps you out! :)
