bluekarin
I can vouch for DMs as well, as that is what I wear. My first pair, when I was at college, were £40, and my most recent pair were also £40! But I will say they are not like they used to be. My first pair were waterproof and and a high tongue and the pair I have now aren't waterproof, and have a low sewn in bit on the tongue. As for Clarks - they are going downhill rapidly. In the holidays I was getting my DS and YD their school shoes. DS tried on a pair of shoes, not too unlike his previous pair, and when he pulled the strap, the plastic loop bit the strap does through snapped! Thank god we didn't buy them and that happen at home. They have really bad styles for kids ie the girls shoes are very much like the ballet style, but with a bit sturdier soles. But the straps that go across the foot are so thin, they offer little or no support and twist after a while. Wish they'd have buckles. And as for some of the soles they have ridiculous wedges Both my daughters have feet or joint problems so need stable shoes, and some shoes they have loved, and fitted (which in itself is a problem as they have narrow feet) they can't have due to the heels. The Dogmother
Funnily enough, I have a pair of my DMs on today!
donald
Hi My son is the same! As he grew up (15 now) he played football in playground and still comes home caked in mud.Trousers with knee holes etc I have kept returning to clarks and now have bought a pair with a rounded hard front(not moccason type). Over the years I tried M&S to save some money and other brands, but have always returned to clarks. We tried all the big boots etc but the backs got trodden down. Personally I found other ones false economy. The only other thing I can think of is to go to an equestrian shop and try to get some tougher boot/shoes. But DMs good idea as well but could be a nuisance to get on and off at school. My sons school is quite strict ie no trainer shoes etc. You could try to get some DMs on line good luck Donald
Snowy
Clare Irchester Country Park looks nice, says dogs should be under control, but it doesn't specify leads!

Chucky Mama
Just a quick update to say a big thank you. The Doc Martens that I bought at the beginning of November are as good as new He has never had a pair of shoes that have lasted as long. The are very smart - not at all clompy as I imagined all Docs would be. I am a happy bunny
chickencam
Great news, I will bear them in mind when my DS's shoes finally give up the ghost, he is still wearing the same pair if Gents Clarkes shoes that we bought just before Christmas 2009 They don't look too pretty, they could do with a good polish but that is never going to happen, but they are still sound. Do I gather from this thread that they are OK for girls too, my YD needs good footwear because she walks on inside of her feet and gets terrible corns. She has a sensible pair of Startrite school shoes which are a cross between a shoe and a trainer, I quite like them but she hates them. The Dogmother
Does she have orthotic inserts Liz? Not all shoes will take them.
chickencam
She did have initially, and she used those for the last 6 months of primary school, but her feet have been fine since with her school shoes which she wears most of the time.
