Charlottechicken
Does anyone else have one of these? Oddly, it has begun flowering today, of all days , and has a rather different scent
Lesley
Heard of them (and the 'fragrance' ) but never seen one - any photos?
Snowy
Hm, maybe you ought to lock it up tonight!
Charlottechicken
It hasn't had any water or soil since I bought it at Grand Designs on the 8th. I do have it standing in an empty pot now, due to its instability as it grows. I've put the breadmaker on and am letting it do a cheese and tomato loaf, to mask the smell of the lily Edited to remove rubbish photo Edited November 1, 2010 by Guest

Lesley
What a weird plant!! Is the smell really bad?
Charlottechicken
The smell is obvious once you are in close proximity to the plant, roughly 2 feet at the moment but the smell is getting stronger It really smells like something died Some greenfly have found it so it obviously works in attracting insects to pollinate it! I understand it has heat producing abilities to make the smell go further too

Charlottechicken
I didn't realise it stank until this morning I've read that once the flower is fully opened the smell starts to fade. It has unfurled a bit more since this morning. I'm presently sitting about six feet away but can't really smell anything.

stehaggan
mine just looked like strands of grass to be honest - checked them one day that was all they were, then looked at them the next day and there is 5 flowers open so just keep checking on them and they will probably open soon as there is still lots that look like grass strands
