megalin
Hello, Just noticed our Orp has these funny feathers on her head. It looks like she's losing the fluff on them and it's looking bare and a bit spiky/scruffy/stumpy. She has been losing some feathers, no bare bits anywhere else though, she's so fluffy I guess orpingtons do just lose a few feathers day to day but her head is a bit strange. Any ideas what this could be? She's top hen out of the 3 so certainly not a result of pecking. She's about 26 weeks old. We've had her for 3 weeks, doesn't seem to be a problem for her but it must be the result of something!
Patricia W
My top cockerel gets head " groomed" from time to time by one of my ex-bats. He just lets her! So don't rule out feather pecking. Tricia
Egluntyne
Sounds as if she is moulting. One of mine has been through similar and now has new feathers growing. She looks hysterical.
Lavenders_Blue
Yep, it's definitely a moult. I have a hen at the moment who is sporting a hedgehog hair-do
megalin
Ah, I did wonder. Wow, not the best time for it mind! I guess they don't read the manuals! She does look a bit silly, I was thinking it might be stress from control freak syndrome I don't think I'd like to be top hen, she always seems so highly strung.....
