thelurch
My 5 hybrids are looking a little rough round the edges, it's their 1st winter and they have lost a small amount of feathers, not many but I'm starting to notice we are going from 5 eggs everyday to 2 or 3 some days. They also have grey bits below their wings which I have found on here is the new feather casings coming through. I have read about giving tinned tuna to boost protein to help them through it, well rinsed to remove salt. I have given one tin mixed with a couple of scoops of layers mash and mixed with water which they wolf down. My question is how often should I give the tuna mix? and is it something that could be good for them at other times or end up being detrimental, as I don't want to give too much protein when it's not needed. They always have access to dry layers mash anyway
sandyhas3chucks
you may not get many replies as defra says we are not allowed to feed it them, amongst lots of other things. however when I have I purchase it in oil and drain it off, figure a little exra oil helps too. As to how much. hmmmmm how many worms or mealworms might a chook it in one go? don't suppose there is a guideline as qwe cant feed it them hope that helps some anyway
Egluntyne
You could try unmedicated chick crumbs or growers pellets to 'up' their protein intake without breaking any rules.
Charlottechicken
I put mine on growers when they stop laying. I'll keep them on it until new year then switch back to layers. By that time the moulting is over, hopefully!

Egluntyne
I 'didn't' give mine left over rice, potato or Yorkshire Pudding for breakfast this morning.. I didn't want them to think they were students.
