megalin
Hello everyone, I've had 3 girls for a month and a bit. 2 of them have been on a course of Baytril for their sniffles sneezes and bubbly eyes. They did seem better after I finished a few days ago but this morning they started up again. They look generally a bit tired and not quite as bright and active as before. It cost me £65 at the vets for 3 chooks so I'm not keen to go back right now as I'm not working at the moment! Do you think it's necessary to go back or maybe I should just give them a bit longer to see how they get on? They certainly aren't as bad anymore. I was wondering about maybe getting some sort of tonic for them to clear the last of it? Has anyone tried Herban poultry tonic/colloidial silver or similar for Mycoplasma? Thanks, eurggggg......! Plum
Follow up visits to the vet are a lot less and like coco says give them a ring and they could prescribe over the phone
megalin
Yes thanks I think I will. Hopefully they can just prescribe again. I have nutri drops which I gave to them when they were really low, coco did you give nutri drops everyday while they were sickly? Egluntyne
It might be worth asking for Tylan this time.
PeckyBeak
We were told at the vets today that the best treatment for myco is Tylan as it is the only drug that stops the mycoplasma penitrating the cells. While Baytril is usually the last drug to use when other things have failed for most illnesses, it doesn't work for myco.
Steve the Gas
Tylan is the dogs for this issue............
megalin
Hmmmm.... Yes I've heard a lot of people say that actually. Unfortunately I don't have a specialist vet near me but I go to one I've always taken my creatures to and trust so maybe I'll call her and see if she can get it. I really want to stop worrying about them now! Is Tylan given as an injection or orally by me? Cheers for the advice!
Steve the Gas
It's put in the drinking water - for the required time period, also treats the others - 'cos it does spread... The Tylan I've got is a dry yellow powder.
PeckyBeak
I was given the soluble powder like Steve the Gas mentioned for treatment of the rest of the flock, for prevention. But the main 2 poorly chooks had a course of 3 injections of Tylan (one every 48 hours), as the injection is stronger and works more directly. Daphne
Tylan is definitely the way to go, although I know its tough having to fork out. The problem is that myco won't go away unless it is treated and tylan is the most appropriate one for this problem. Colloidal silver can be effective (I was told this by a specialist avian vet at my local poultry club meeting directly in response to my question about using it for myco) but unfortunately I can't remember the dosage or even what you're supposed to do with it.
