Emily my newly rescued ex batt is looking really bad. she odd lying on her side, eyes shut and twitching. she is now indoors in the lounge. is there any more I can do?

any other symptoms? she sounds like my last 3 deaths which have all been cocciodosis but really it could be anything if she is just showing the symptoms you say, take her to the vet...I lost one in the night and all day yesterday she was doing just what you said but I was expecting it, its not nice to see. Keeping her warm and trying to get some food into her will be your best bet other than the vets.

Keep her warm and perhaps try her with some Rescue Remedy or Nutridrops if you have some to hand.

sorry posting on my phone so hence keeping it brief and lack of punctuation. she was fine this morning at 7.30. by 9.30 she was hunched. put her in cube to warm up. by 10.30 she was on her side so I brought her indoors. she has a full crop from eating this am. I don't have nutri drops. can you buy them in animal feed stores or is it likely to be only online.

You should be able to get them from where you get your feed.

How is she now?

Looking a lot better. She is sitting up and eating. She hasn't had a drink but only recognises the glug. I tried her with the hamster bottle but she wasn't interested. I'm at a loss as to what to do with her. I assume it was just the cold got to her although it has been warmer than other days today as it's been around 0 degrees. The other 2 ex batts look fine. I'm keeping her in tonight but I tried bringing them all in when the weather turned at the end of last week and they went mad, throwing themselves at the walls and door. Once she's feeling better she is going to go mad.

If you have a syringe, you could get some water into her that way. Hope she gets better

Know what you mean with the weather being so harsh at moment and all the new exbats. Its so hard on them. I feel since had mine we have had nothing but lousy weather which cant be helping them much.

I know! From one extreme (heated captivity) to the other (frozen)!! Even though Ive had mine for three weeks they are growing feathers. Today my smallest and baldest one looked a bit sullen, cold and not feeding as well as previously. I rang the BHWT to see if I should bring her in. She said not, but advised covering the run completely, lots of bedding corn at bedtime - all the stuff we already know. So I blocked the end with clear plastic (leaving a bit of space for ventilation). I put some garden fleece and a plastic backed picnic blanket over the eglu too. I put a snugglesafe in the run incase that might help raise the temperature a degree. I hope she is better tomorrow. I really hope Emily is ok. She really is so bald.

Emily sounds like she has similar symptoms to three exbatts that I have brought home from rehoming days. All well on their way to recovery now.

 

I have found that using a syringe and shooting water into the coop cup making a little splash gets them interested in the water. If you do syringe water for them don't force it down as you may choke them. Drip water slowly and let them suck/nibble the end of the syringe.
