Can't remove Eglu poo tray

Recommended Posts

I went to clean out the chooks todayand was unable to remove the poo tray. The Eglu has been well-covered throughout this freezing weather so I don't think the two are related. The metal strip still moves but I can't seem to disengage it to slide the tray out. :?:?

If anyone can help, I'd be very grateful ...................... so will our girls!! :(:)

I had a similar problem today - and last year now I come to think of it! I think that it was just where moisture has frozen - making it stick. I just wiggled and jiggled and eventually they both came clear. Not sure what else to suggest!

Cross posted --- both had the same idea aout the wiggling!!

Second cross post!!

If you cant shift it then clean it out in situ, the roosting bars come out ok through the egg port door and you can scoop the poo out with an old feed scoop and a gloved hand

I line my tray with paper and it goes in the compost bin with the poo so I can in this weather when I cannot get the back open in the 2 feet of snow we have do exactly as redwing suggests and wear a disposable latex glove and take it all out into a carrier bag and take it and dump it in the compost bin through the egg port door. Its very easy but unfortunately does not get a wash in this weather either! :-((

Even before all the snow and the eglu became an igloo, I had stopped removing the tray or taking the top off. I line everything with newspaper and remove soiled paper, etc through the egg port. Make sure some paper goes from the nest box and is held down by the rear rooster bars to prevent edge of nest box being soiled. A lining of cardboard also helps. I wear the pink gloves from Omlet which I wear also when poo picking or rather digging up the frozen poo. It is surprising how warm they keep your hands.

I've had this happen in the past when it's been really cold. Usually it happens within a couple of days of having completely scrubbed it down as there is a thin film of water which becomes frozen, sticking the tray to the base. I got around this though, as I line the tray with paper and then could take off the eggport door and remove the roosting bars, then I could move the paper out.
