Old Speckled Hen
What's everybody doing now that there are no bees to watch? Planning? Making up kit? or watching a bee cam somewhere? I have a rather large Thornes order to sort and a paint colour chart for the polyhive-to-be to peruse Oh and lots of reading.
Kermit
Various bits of ply to turn into hives. Build a couple more OMF floors. Sort out the stands for the new hives going on to my school's farm. Continue with the Basic course at my assoc. Read some books (and get the bees to read them too, so they do what they are supposed to do ). Plus lots around the house - central heating, architraves around doors... The list is endless. Olly
Reading up so I can do the Basic next year. Worrying about my bees - I hope they are ok with the heavy frosts we've had recently and the cold forecast, but there's nothing much that I can do about it, I'll find out in the spring. Dreaming of honey - I won't be so bloomin' generous with it next year, I gave away most of my first harvest!
MedusA
Dreaming of honey - I won't be so bloomin' generous with it next year, I gave away most of my first harvest! Me too, Olly. I'll definitely not be giving hardly any away next year. I've got a spare hive to make up as parts, mainly so I can do a Bailey Comb Change next spring to get rid of all the old combs my bees originally came on. Daphne
Plus lots around the house - central heating, architraves around doors... Yours or theirs? I am enjoying not doing anything although we will be doing an oxalic treatment in a few weeks time. OH knocked the hives and got 3 answering buzzes last week, which was very encouraging I find any spare capacity for worry or activity is more than satisfied with the birds and the never ending keep the water liquid and providing calorie filled meal requirements However, what I should be doing is: Get round to designing some pretty labels for next years harvest, find a new/2nd hand hive or two and buy foundation/frames, invest in a better smoker, make some fondant, find some suitable boxes for next years swarm catching, and continue my surruptitious training of OH!
