Newbie Just ordered a Cube-ie

Recommended Posts

:D

Just ordered the Cube in Green ( wanted Purple but OH is normally correct in choice of colours). Was concerned that I have 7 hens, two Light Sussex, a Black Rock, a Verwork, a Rhode Island, Speckledy, and a Poland. would they fit into it.

Everything I have read says it's the right one so hope all goes well.

Has anyone got any advice on the Cube I am collecting from Omlet Shop on Saturday?

Well done you, good choice (would've gone purple myself). I've got 6 girlies in (cube pink) + 1 extension, I've just pinched the run bit off my (cube green) to make it even bigger though. (The (cube green) will be attached to a WIR.) Sounds like a great mix of hens you've got all different.

Oh thank you all so much for a lovely welcome. We are off to collect (cube green) tomorrow morning, and it is my Birthday, so what a great thing to happen.

I have to make a new enclosure for my Babes and this is going right onto a pretty patch near a pear tree. I will post photos as soon as it is up and together but it looks like it will be a week before the camera comes out.

Snow, I don't need it, Greenland hasn't got enough so I reckon it should go over there. :D

Will post more tomorrow when in possession of new home for my beauties. :D

:D:D(cube green) Sits in my workshop till I get the WIR sorted.

DH is going to help me pick the right site and then sort out the measurements etc. I really only want the WIR for nights and really bad weather, so looking to make something really pretty for my girls.

Also I need advice on what to lay in the cube for droppings and for the nest box.

Thanks all and will keep you informed.

I use Bliss (comes in 2 flavours citronella & eucalyptus) horse bedding large bale for about £8 lasts ages, a layer in the nest box and a sprinkle in the poop trays to stop it sticking and to soak up any damp. I also put in a sprinkle of Biodri powder disinfectant.

I think everyone uses something different.

Managed to make a temporary run with just aviary and chicken wire. We have now located a site by the garages to make a permanent WIR and just need inspiration for it.

Spent two hours this afternoon clipping the spares off the willow tree, shattering work, but the setting will be great for the girls.

*goes for stroll to see what is going on....*
