Except. more like Crouching Chicken-Hidden Fox.... nice one Sari - but in my case it's 'hidden big black cat from next door" he keeps chasing poor Barbara who doesn't seem to know how to fend him off!! bouldercroft
no yet... I have a theory...they will wait until I go on vacation in a few weeks time...and I'll miss my first egg in person I'm dropping them and off at a friends house for a week - probably because they are so fed-up of me going in there and talking to them about the egg situation everyday
Mercedes55
Our Cream Legbar has never crouched, mind you it's quite hard to get close to her as she is very skittish. However she has started laying lovely blue eggs, so guess she was ready but just wasn't going to let us know Our Salmon Favorelle on the other hand had been crouching for weeks before she decided to start laying. I think they are just trying to confuse us
catherinedon
surprise surprise there was a very new looking egg in the nest yest and again today bigger than the others. its brown not as dark as maran but darker and bigger than light sussex its gotta be my bluebell Rose this coincides with my silkie an sussex becoming broodie and stopping laying so instead of 5 layers I have
Plum
Well done Rose No eggs from Coot yet but she's on antibiotics so I couldn't eat it anyway if she did lay
jill the potter
OH found an egg in the run the afternoon, and since we had one this morning from Margot it must be Barbara!!!! Not sure why it's in the run, perhaps she was surprised by it!!! Although a bit disappointed as I thought because she is crossed with a cream legbar we might have got a tinted egg Still they're all the same when you fry them

jill the potter
second egg from Barbara this morning - again in the run - How do I encourage her to lay in the next box, or do some chickens never get the hang of this?
LeeMeadfan
I think when they're first coming in to lay they can get 'caught out'! My Bluebelle did this a couple of times or laid one on the roosting bars. As I have an Eglu run to try & get the egg was an interesting mission!! bouldercroft
after 3 weeks of crouching korma laid her first in the nesting area how do they know where to lay? I didn't get my chickens pre-programmed from Omlet... I think they must have access to the internet to see the plans
jill the potter
Yay for first egg!!! Obviously my Barbara hasn't read the plans - another egg in the run today - slap bang in a huge dollop of runny poo!
