on the coldest day of the year.......First egg!

Recommended Posts

The day started out at -13C and warmed up to -7C for a high, but in the !gored! korma (I assume) was busy at work...

OUR FIRST EGG!!!!!!

a perfect creamy brown 50g egg

My husband came running down the basement stairs thinking we were being attacked by a hawk but the noises he heard was me squealing with delight and doing the egg dance

Thank you all for putting up with me complaining about these lazy chickens - they arrived on Oct 4th 2010 (alledgedly 16weeks old) and on this memorable day we have our first egg...

(apologies for the lack of straw in the nesting area but they are rather obsessed with moving it about...)

I looked in thinking 'what's the point - there is no way they will lay on a day as cold as today'...and then I saw it...

I didn't move it at first as I wanted to capture the photo - poor husband didn't even spot it when I opened up the door to show him...

oh what a happy day.....

here's hoping tomorrow brings another..

but can someone reassure me that I giving praise where it's due - this egg is from Korma by Black Star and not from Josie the bantam?

Another !eggbrown! today!

Today's was 5g heavier than the first and a little more brown than the first one.

I'm sooooo proud of Korma - what a star!

So - now we have two eggs it was time to cook and eat them. I've spent 2 days agonizing over how to eat the first one and decided that egg-in-the-hole was the way to do it. I couldn't trust a boiled egg - I was too afraid of over-cooking the perfect orange yolk.

And it was amazing....

Four months in the making then gone in seconds!
