beckyfitz
My duckies & chooks live harmoniously in my WIR, but the duckies are so mucky & instantly spoil all the drinking water. I have several drinkers & water vessels for drinking, splashing, washing in & these are changed at least once daily, sometimes more often. Clearly ducks don't mind their water flavoured with mud, but I would like my chooks to have one that is unsullied. It doesn't matter where I put it either, as the ducks will find a bit of mud to rummage in then think nothing of walking to the other end to dip their bills in the Glug! I know that Omlet once sold Superglugs with nipples & have seen these available elsewher, but as they were changed I assumed this wasn't good for the chickens? Any other ideas that my chooks could use but the ducks couldn't? Becky x
jimnpaula
I believe that chickens can be taught to use rabbit style ball-bearing type drinkers. P
Christian
The superglugs are still in the shop - superglugs
chicken bark
I know what you mean about ducks messing up all the drinking water. I worried about it but now have given up - I have a washing up bowl of water for the chickens and a pond and trug for the ducks. Even when the washing up bowl stays clean the chickens prefer to drink out of the dirty trug and pond.
Lavenders_Blue
Judging by the way my girls rush to the flithiest, skankiest puddles of rainwater they can find when I let them out to FR, I don't think that muddy water ought to do them any harm. It may not look very appetising to us, but I think chooks probably have different standards!
Redwing
The Superglugs arent fitted with the droppers any more Christian Nipple drinkers are quite widely available though but if given another option the chooks will most likely use that so I'm not sure there is much to be gained from using them Another option could be a narrow lipped hanging drinker hung at head height? I use the 3l version of these which are very good http://www.regencypoultry.com/drinkers/PlasticDrinkers/regency_drinker.htm

Janty
I was told by someone at Omlet that if I wanted one of the old style nipple superglugs, then they could supply one if I telephoned.
