I was wondering if anybody has any experience or knowledge about these shelters. http://www.uniquefieldshelters.co.uk/25/8ft-x-8ft-field-shelter.shtml My alpaca shelter (mark II) has just blown down. I am slowly learning that by doing things on the cheap I'm actually wasting money because I keep having to re-do things. So.... I'm considering getting this. Points in its favour are that its easily movable and I'm hoping to have my own field one day also if it blows down, I can just pick it up again and give it extra stakes. (Current field shelter blew over and broke into pieces ) Its a lot for me to spend so I'd really appreciate it if anybody has any experience of them or any views. If so I would say it may blow over too as the wind can get in - I dont have horses or alpaca either but know that a friend up the way has a wooden one which would also be moveable as she moves it around = prob need a tractor to do it though and it does not blow over and we are at the foot of a hill and the wind really blows a hoolie round here! I would say its very expensive indeed. Mind you just checked the wooden ones prices - oh my they are really expensive. Maybe you could get someone local to make one cheaper. Redwing Posted January 23, 2011 Share Posted January 23, 2011 The blue one looks flimsy, the one wth the part covered front looks better Perhaps those professional temporary lambing sheds made like big tents would be a better option, they are really sturdy Have you considered building your own? you are pretty practical.. if you made walls with pallets threaded on to wooden tree stakes and then clad it in cheap thick OSB board (or better quality marine ply) then a roof made from OSB and felted or covered with a tarp.. even if you pushed the boat out and spent money on good materials or a labourer it would cost less than that Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Lewis Posted January 23, 2011 Share Posted January 23, 2011 That is expensive but they do look good Have a look at *Smiths Sectionals shelters* or their *goat shelters* - don't have one (obviously ) but we were next to their stand at CLA and everything looked really well made and they were really nice people + answered loads of questions Have you got a photo of what they're in atm? All that taken into consideration (and speaking to somebody today whose seen one) we have decided it was a BAD IDEA! Think it came from a tired place where we just wanted it done. Now we are feeling better (and saner) we've decided to make our own. I dont know what I was thinking really. We can make bigger and better than that for far less money!
