craftyhunnypie
Can someone tell me if land that has had horses on can recover? At the moment there are 2 horses on it & it's obviously rutted with their hooves. If harrowed & left could it return to lush grass, even if it needed fertilising? Thanks Emma.x
Snowy
If it's had horses on, I wouldn't have thought it would need much fertilising!
sjp
it should start to show signs of new growth as soon as the weather warms up fertility won't be an issue were grass is concerned horse muck is one of the best fertilizers there is
craftyhunnypie
So it can end up being lush grassy field? Thanks for putting mind at rest! Emma.x
Lesley
and once grass has grown back you could put sheep on it as they level out the ground.
Miss Millies Chicken
If the land is very poached eg around gate ways than the grass will not grow back and weeds will take over These areas will need re seeding. If the rest of the land is not to bad than chain harrowing and a rest will see it recover once the weather is warmer.
Redwing
our field used to be used by horses. It did take about a year for it to recover fully We had it harrowed and rolled first Then topped then put the sheep on it its been topped twice since and now the grass is short and even
craftyhunnypie
Thanks Tasha. Sounds easy enough. We don't have a harrow, but know people who have & we do have Toby tractor, who just needs a mower attatchment. Emma.x
