Eggasperated
I have been looking through all the lovely pictures of everyones hens, they all look clean and gorgeous. Then I go out in the garden and look at my lot - they're filthy dirty from digging about under the hedge and in the field, most of them have feathers missing as the Black Rocks can't seem to let a day go by without snacking on someones' feathers , consequently they have patches of anti-peck spray which make the Amber Star and Gold Star look like they have very dirty bottoms . On the plus side I guess they must be happy as I am getting 4 or 5 eggs every day. I suppose you can't have everything .

Roobaloo
I know how you feel....mine are filthy too!! All of them need a bath...I have a white hen that varies in shades of grey and brown depending on what she's been up too...a magpie with a half bald belly that sleeps in the nestbox so has dirty knickers...and a Silver nick who's more brown than cream!! Yet I see so many photos of people's hens that are "Daz white"

tracyann
Ah yes but remember my run has only been in use for one day, about 24 hours, give it time and they will be just as dirty as everyone elses, they are new babies, so just settling in. Chortle Chook
I'm hoping that come summer and a bath or two, I'll have a nice Silkie and a pretty Frizzle once more. At the moment my Frizzle is wearing a browny grey bib and my Silkie, well, she has a grey colour to her wings and breast and a browny grey top knot As for my golden Silkie, she has a breast covered in Aubiose and bits of straw, as she is broody right now and only comes out when I pick her off her nest and force her to take note that chicky lunch has been served. Her top knot looks like she is in curlers and all she needs is a cigy in the corner of her mouth and a mop
jimnpaula
My latest photos are of a recently moved run (so no time for poop) and fresh, young pullets who haven't had time to get really dirty. The colour difference between my old and new white Sussex hybrids is quite something. It doesn't help that poor old(er) Pearl is also covered in Ukadex and purple spray patches. And I have some old ex batts who poop in the nestbox then sleep in it, and consequently have bald bums. Silly girls. P
karlotta
My crew are nice and muddy most of the time - it's how you know they are having fun! The moral of the story is take pictures the day you get new ones!
coco
Mine are all looking quite clean at the moment as they have just had new woodchip put down and it hasn't rained for a couple of days. The only scruffiness they have is down to ex batt Lola who insists on pulling feathers out of Lily and Fizz. At least Fizz is black so I can't see the anti peck spray.
