HTC desire HD / smartphone app recommendations

Recommended Posts

Hello having previously read threads on here about Smartphones I upgraded on friday and got the HTC desire HD. I love it already and have loaded applications to synch it with my Kindle and the game Angry Birds (which is seriously addictive).

What other applications do I need  A shopping list would be good- does any one have one they can recommend, any others recommendations?

Also does any one have any tips for how to improve the battery life - I'm draining it very quickly at the moment as its such a new toy - I'm having to charge more than once a day. If I buy a spare battery and charger is it important to buy genuine ones?

I use OI shopping, which is great. You can have multiple lists, which is handy.

The app I use most by a long way is the Google calendar, which auto synchs with the one on my Computer - I have all the family appointments on there, plus what I am planning to cook every night & weekly tasks - it has made me so much more organised.

Google maps is handy too,as is Google Earth.

I also use Facebook on Android, which is handy.

The Sky+ app is handy if you have Sky+ & are in bed & have forgotten to set it to record something.......

The Amazon app also gets used a lot,as does the Kindle app.

I use Notepad for when I do a mystery shop,as it looks like you are texting, when in fact you are noting details 8)

A Flashlight is dead handy too.

Purely for fun,I love Planefinder, which shows you where to planes are going to as they fly overhead!

Just downloaded nature Wallpaper, which has some wonderful wallpapers for the phone too.

ATK (Advanced Task Killer) as also a good one to have a widget for as it will close all open Apps and free some memory on your phone :D

I use Twitter and Facebook all the time! Use the internet all the time too - last month I nearly went over my (supposedly) Unlimited Internet  (Fair usage  )

Agree with Sarah about Google Calendar! :D

You can set it to give reminders etc. I have all the shows in so will tell me when they're coming up

Also, if you book with Cross Country Trains (maybe others too) you can click at the end of buying, to add it to your Google Calendar - it will then email and remind you about the train, with exact times and also your self-service ticket collection number! 8)

The batteries are rubbish  Will barely last a day sometimes! Have brightness on the lowest and have the time-off on the quickest (15seconds). I also find if I use the internet more, the battery will go noticeably a lot quicker.

Sorry to resurect an old(ish) thread, but would be interested to hear how folks are getting on with their HTC Wildfires? Have just ordered one for ES - he was going onto a contract and the phone was free so it would have been rude not to take it (even though he got a new Nokia for Christmas  )

Battery is still rubbish as ever but thats the only real complaint! :D

It can be a pain at being slow opening texts + things but thats only recently so think I need to clear out a big chunk of memory!

Best thing to get for them is screen protectors, I got 6 on ebay for £2something! Should really get a case for it to stop it getting scratched but its fine.

The C.geo app for geocaching ( free!) is better than the paid for groundspeak app...and I've just downloaded the Alchemy game " for the children"....it's addictive! I've also got a sleep and relax app...white noise and relaxing sounds, great as I suffer from episodic insomnia....

I know this is old, but mine s new I love it, though it does do some darn odd things, like change it's own email settings. Think it might be a bit too clever for its own good.

Love Google Sky map and Flight trader pro.

Shame we can't get Flash on it though.also use handsent for texts as has lots more fuctions and allows me to set my own "louder" alerts
