Holiday help! Anyone been to Andalucia?

Recommended Posts

Am trying to book a holiday for the family - OH and 3 boys aged 5, 7 and 10. Want to go somewhere warm and quiet, 7 days, with beach plus other places of interest to visit. Only time off available to OH is first two weeks of August - aahh!! Don't want to do France or Portugal as have been previously with boys. Any ideas? Have looked at villas in Andalucia - Frigiliana and Nerja. Anyone been here? All suggestions gratefully received - before I divorce OH!!!!!

I toured Andalucia for a week with my OH a couple of years back in September. We stayed in the Paradores. OMG! Absolutely gorgeous! Not beach scene at all, some had a pool.

We stayed at:

Jaen - A Fort! It's on top of a hill and is so atmospheric. It has a pool.

Ubeda - A former palace, built around an internal courtyard. No pool. Quiet place with lovely streets to wander around.

Cazorla - A hunting lodge themed place. Fab views, lots of wildlife. Has a pool, lovely hikes.

Granada - Staying in the Grounds of the Alhambra. No pool, but the most popular Parador in Spain. Very Atmospheric.

Cordoba - Not my favourite! The gardens and swimming pool are lovely but the building is fairly modern and didn't have the WOW factor that the other places had. The terrace was lovely for dinner.

The food at all these places is fantastic (but that's my opinion -with 3 children under 11 you might have a different idea?)

I'm not suggesting you'd want to stay for more than a night (or two) with the children, but the novelty of some of these places might enthrall them for a sufficient time for you to enjoy the fab dining facilities.

Ask me more questions if you are interested in any of these.

I think Nerja looks beautiful! Somewhere I would like to visit one day.

Thanks for your advice, certainly looks like a good choice then. How hot does it get during August?

Hot  Not great for beaches but beautiful scenery and the villages are gorgeous. Quite conservative re dress and not much going on in the evening but food is great although English is not always recognised. We stayed in a fantastic villa with pool with view of the mountains, resident dogs and horse that drank from the pool

Well, have booked holiday, villa with pool in area of national park, very secluded, but within easy distance of Nerja and Maro. Would have preferred to go earlier in year, but only available leave for OH is August (apart from the week in June that he has booked to go away with the lads to the TT's! and refused to cancell! - but I won't mention that! )

Have a lovely time, it sounds really nice. I think we'll have to try it one time.

I must admit when I tell people we're going to Malta in August everyone says 'ooh it'll be so hot' again its the only time OH can take off the time. Apart from the ten days he can manage to take off for the TT too. So you're not the only one. I'm going with him this time though.

Why don't you come too? We have a spare room if needed, and Seagazer & OH are coming over. Could be the next Omlet get together!

I'm sure you'll have a fab time in Nerja

Have just shown this to OH), and his only comment was, that your OH is going for 10 days which must mean that he's"allowed" to go for race week too!

When I showed this to him and suggested I accompany him, well that's when he disappeared to the garage!

Oh no! That's not good. My OH thinks its quite nice that there are people we can meet up with! My hubby has been going for the last few years (with my brother and his friend) and they marshall. Usually they struggle to find restaurants/cafes to eat in - until last year when my SIL went with my brother and amazingly they managed to eat properly every day. My brother thinks he only needs a liquid diet!

You should tell him he definitely needs your company. We could all then meet up with Goosey Lucy, your hubby and my hubby can discuss bikes and we can talk chickens. :D

Sounds like a plan! We are 2 mins walk from the village pub if that's any incentive?

 That's what made us choose our b & b as its round the corner from a pub and a 10 minute walk to Peel! :D

We go to Torremuelle which is in the malaga/andalucia region of Spain quite a few times a year as the OH parents live there. If you travel inland from the beach its very nice up in the old towns and also Rhonda has a beautiful gorge. Benelmadina/torremelinos and fuengirola are ideal places to take kids for something to do with the option to travel inland for a bit of culture.

We find the prices there very reasonable for food and excursions etc.. if you fancied it you could even go over to morroco for the day from there.

Ryanair often do cheap flights to malaga and then the train connections to the resorts are very good x
